I was delighted to attend Tate Britain’s David Hockney exhibition, showcasing one of the largest collections of his work. A mixture of his classic paintings and collage pieces, with his more recent digital iPad pieces.
I am particularly intrigued by Hockney’s use of light in colour, and how this has been influenced by his time spent in areas of the world with spectacular sunshine. Since returning to Yorkshire from California, it’s evident he’s brought this use of sunshiney colour and applied it to his typically more grey surroundings. As artists, we could all take away something valuable in this, challenging the rules of colour. Why shouldn’t trees be orange and magenta??
